Together we can change the world, one woman at a time.

Ethos is proud to support Women for Women International, a charity helping women survivors of war to rebuild their lives.

Since 1993, Women for Women International has reached over half a million of the most socially-excluded women survivors of war in Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Iraq.

Ethos is currently sponsoring two women from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria.

Women for Women International’s Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme equips women to earn money, regain their confidence and actively participate in their communities. When a woman joins the programme, she comes together with 24 other women, forming a tight support group that helps to break the isolation caused by war and insecurity.

When women claim their power, they reinvest it in their families, their communities, and their countries, creating a world that’s more equal, peaceful, and prosperous.

"The programme has picked me up from the dust and placed me on a pedestal of hope and economic strength. It has enhanced my life beyond my wildest dreams and I am so grateful,” shares Naomi, a graduate of the Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme in Nigeria.

Women learn a marketable job skill - such as tailoring, bread-making or poultry-keeping, as well as business training to turn their chosen skill into a stable income to support herself and her family. They can begin to save their money, and receive support to establish a savings group so they and other women in their community can make the most of their earnings.

They will also gain practical knowledge about their health, including reproductive health, stress management and the importance of good hygiene and nutrition so they can protect themselves and their family from preventable disease.

Lastly, they will learn about their rights on key issues like voting, access to land, divorce, custody of their children and domestic abuse. Once they learn their rights, they are empowered and equipped to stand up for them and can share their knowledge with others in their community.

With over fifty brutal armed conflicts across the globe and unprecedented levels of violence against women, there’s never been a greater need to support women survivors of war.
